ELGIN, IL (WGN/CNN) – A 55-year-old man faces a first-degree murder charge, as well as charges related to dismemberment and concealing a body, after his mother’s remains were found in a Chicago lagoon.
Brian Peck, 55, called 911 Friday afternoon and said his mom, 76-year-old Gail Peck, went missing while walking the dog.
Days later, prosecutors say the 55-year-old admitted to stomping on his mother and killing her on Oct. 25 after they got into a fight.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the fight occurred after Gail Peck told her son that he was playing Jimi Hendrix music too loudly.
“The defendant said that he knocked the victim’s leg out from under her and stomped on her head and neck. The defendant is 6’1” and 260 pounds, and the victim was 5’4” and 140 pounds,” said assistant state’s attorney Maria McCarthy.
Prosecutors say Brian Peck then chopped up his mother in the bathtub, bought cleaning supplies, tarps, brick pavers and luggage and canceled his cleaning lady.
The suspect told police he intended to put Gail Peck’s body in the freezer, but when that didn’t work out, he made two trips to Chicago to dump the remains.
“He drove the bags that contained her head and arms to Montrose Harbor and threw those bags into Lake Michigan,” McCarthy said.
Fishermen found duffel bags filled with body parts, which were later discovered to be those of Gail Peck, Saturday morning.
Brian Peck was ordered held without bail after being charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of concealment of a homicidal death, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The 55-year-old was his mother’s only child and lived in her basement.
Last year, in a domestic violence case, the suspect pleaded guilty to hitting his mom in the face and strangling her twice. He also picked her up off the ground by her neck and told her he was going to kill her.
