Governor to Trump: Tweet less, listen more

Posted

(CNN) – President Donald Trump stressed a need for action following the Parkland, FL, school shooting in a White House meeting with about 40 governors Monday.

The president's proposal to arm teachers was also discussed, and he listened to proposals from those in attendance.

Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington spoke passionately against the idea of arming teachers, based on his conversations with teachers and law enforcement.

He also suggested how the president might better address the notion.

"May I just suggest we need a little less tweeting here, a little more listening, and let's just take that off the table and move forward," Inslee said.

Trump didn’t address Inslee’s comment.

"Thank you very much," Trump said before moving on to another question.

In addition to arming teachers, the president also said he supports raising the minimum age to buy semi-automatic rifles and improving the background check system.
