LAS VEGAS, NV (RNN) - The Clark County Commission chair from Las Vegas has started a GoFundMe to assist victims of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

It exceeded its goal of $500,000 in about three hours and funds continue to pour in.

Funds will be used to help provide “relief and financial support to victims and families of the shooting," Steve Sisolak wrote.

“I am at Clark County’s only level-one trauma center with the victims and the families as we speak,” he wrote.

The death toll has risen to more than 58 and more than 500 injured concertgoers who were among 22,000 attending  the Route 91 Harvest Festival when the gunman opened fire with a military-style rifle.

The FBI has said that the shooter, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, took his own life as police stormed his hotel room and had no ties to terrorist groups. The motive remains a mystery.

The Red Cross is calling for blood donations in the Las Vegas area and elsewhere.

In the first two hours, the fundraiser has soared to more than $128,000 of a $500,000 goal.
