STOCKTON, CA (KTXL/CNN) – A 4-year-old girl is recovering after she was shot in the arm and stomach area at a gas station in California Saturday night.
Police say after 4-year-old Eyanalee’s father pulled up to a gas station in Stockton, CA, around 8:30 p.m, someone shot at the car the little girl was in.
Leandro Perez witnessed the incident from across the street. He says an employee yelled at them to get to cover.
"I heard them go, ‘Get in here. Get in here.’ So, I thought they were just getting out of the way, you know. I didn't know the little girl got hit until today,” Perez said.
The suspect’s car drove off shortly after the shooting.
Police are not commenting on a motive nor saying whether Eyanalee or her father were intended targets.
"Detectives are still investigating the case. We do know the car was hit, the 4-year-old was hit but nobody else was hit,” said Rosie Calderon with the Stockton Police Department.
Eyanalee was struck in the arm and possibly in the stomach area, Calderon says. Her father as well as another young boy were only a couple of feet away at the time of the shooting, but they were uninjured.
The little girl is now recovering and is expected to be OK. Her mother wanted to share a photo of the smiling 4-year-old to let the people who did this know how strong she is.
Police, meanwhile, are hoping to bring the three suspects to justice.
