UNDATED (AP) — Major league owners are 3-3 against players in arbitration this winter after relievers Ryan Tepera of Toronto and Kyle Barraclough (BAR'-ah-claw) of Washington lost their cases. Tepera was awarded a $1,525,000 salary rather than his request for $1.8 million, and Barraclough was given a $1,725,000 salary instead of his $2 million request. Cleveland starting pitcher Trevor Bauer asked for $13 million through arbitration today, while the Indians countered with an $11 million package for this season after he went 12-6 with a 2.21 ERA to finish second in the AL Cy Young Award balloting.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State says quarterback Justin Fields has been granted a waiver that will allow him to play immediately for the Buckeyes after transferring from Georgia. The former five-star recruit transferred to the Buckeyes after he got stuck behind Jake Fromm on Georgia's depth chart. Fields is expected to compete for the starting quarterback spot after Dwayne Haskins Jr. left early to enter the NFL draft.
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Phil Mickelson was part of a four-way tie for the clubhouse lead when play was suspended in the second round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Mickelson bogeyed three straight holes at Spyglass Hill before completing a 4-under 68 to move to minus-10, tied with Lucas Glover, Paul Casey and Scott Langley. Casey shot a 64 today, and Jordan Spieth (speeth) was 10 under with two holes to play when play was halted.
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Jesper Parnevik fired a 9-under 63 to take the first-round lead in the Oasis Championship at Boca Raton. Parnevik had four straight birdies on Nos. 4-7 on his final nine on The Old Course at Broken Sound as he seeks his second PGA Tour Championship victory and first since 2016. Bernhard Langer closed with consecutive birdies on the back nine for a 64 that puts him one shot back.
