(RNN) - Tropical Storm Gert is now a hurricane and is expected to continue moving north-northeast in the Atlantic Ocean and away from the East Coast.
It is currently located about 445 miles west of Bermuda, moving north at 8 mph. There are no watches or warnings connected to the storm.
Gert’s maximum sustained winds have reached 75 mph as of 11 p.m. ET on Monday.
The National Hurricane Center said Gert is expected to turn to the northeast on Tuesday as it gains speed. Swells triggered by the storm will spread northward along the East Coast from North Carolina toward Long Island, NY, during the week.
Bermuda also will experience swells that are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, the NHC said.
