(CNN) - A Game of Thrones star opened up about her off-screen fight with depression.
In an interview appearing in fashion designer Net-a-Porter's magazine, The Edit, Lena Headey says she battled postpartum depression.
She told interviewer and co-star Maise Williams that she initially didn't know why she was so sad.
Once a doctor diagnosed her, she sought help and dealt with it while shooting the first season of the acclaimed show.
HBO is ramping up publicity for the upcoming season of Game of Thrones.
The network says Headey's character, Cersei, will try to "even the odds" after ascending to the iron throne at the end of last season.
Season eight of the show debuts July 16.
Season nine is set to be the wildly popular show's final season.
