Fracas breaks out at city council meeting

Posted

BALTIMORE (WBAL/CNN) - Scuffles at a Baltimore City Council hearing led to two arrests on Tuesday.

Protesters wanted to speak about a gun measure before the council, and were prevented from doing so after waiting for more than two hours, they said. Their frustration created a scene of chaos in the council chambers Tuesday afternoon.

Some had lined up for more than an hour to make statements to the panel, and listened to council members, lawmakers and agency heads speak. When they thought their turn had come, a school was called upon and then a fracas broke out.

Officers had to restore order at the meeting, and one man, 27, who was arrested complained of chest pains. Another man, 29, is in police custody, WBAL reported.
