(CNN) - New research indicates that signs of water on Mars may not be water at all.
Back in 2011, astronomers discovered dark streaks on the slopes of Mars. Some believed that there could be water beneath the surface, which might allow life to exist on the red planet.
But according to a new study by the journal “Nature Geoscience,” those streaks may be the result of granular flows like sand and dust.
So does that mean there’s no water on Mars after all?
Not necessarily.
Researchers say there’s plenty of evidence for water on Mars, such as ice on the planet’s subsurface and poles.
