(RNN) - Donations are pouring in for a 15-year-old Florida student who is being crowned a hero after he was shot while protecting his classmates.

Anthony Borges was shot by Nikolas Cruz five times while using his body to close and lock a classroom door during a deadly school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last Wednesday.

In the shooting’s aftermath, 17 students and faculty were killed, but the students in the classroom Borges was shielding were unharmed.

He was hit in both legs, his left upper thigh and his back, according a GoFundMe page set up in Borges' honor.

So far more than $405,300 has been raised.

“He has a long road of recovery ahead of him but he is alive and stable,” the page said.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel visited Borges at the hospital over the weekend.

“Please join us in praying for the swift recovery of Anthony and all the other victims of this horrific criminal act,” the Sheriff’s Office page said in a Facebook post.

Many took to social media to share their gratitude for Borges' acts of bravery.

Cruz confessed to the shooting and is charged with 17 counts of murder.
