(CNN) - George and Amal Clooney are donating $500,000 to help pay for a gun control march calling the wake of the Florida high school shooting.

The rampage by former student Nikolas Cruz at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school last Wednesday left 17 people dead.

The "March for Our Lives," planned for next month is being organized by five students who survived the attack.

The march will take place in Washington and other cities around the nation.

Clooney said in a statement that he and his wife Amal are inspired by the "courage and eloquence" of the young men and women from the high school.

Clooney also said they’re making the donation in the name of their children Ella and Alexander.
