ORLANDO, FL (RNN) – A man arrested when police mistook glaze from a Krispy Kreme doughnut for methamphetamine received a $37,500 settlement.
Daniel Rushing sued the city of Orlando, FL, because of the drug charges that came from the arrest. Officers spotted a few flakes of doughnut glaze in the floorboards and thought it was crystal meth.
He told the officers they were probably glaze off the Krispy Kreme doughnut he ate earlier, but they took him in after a faulty field test.
Rushing was exonerated by a crime lab a few weeks later, but he told the Orlando Sentinel that he couldn’t get a job because the arrest was on his record.
He said he is happy with the result, but really wants to see his record cleared.
“I haven’t been able to work,” he told the Orlando Sentinel. People go online and see that you’ve been arrested.”
The city of Orlando had no comment on the case.
