Firefighters save man, dog, trapped in flood

FLORENCE, CO (RNN) - A swift water rescue team used a fire truck ladder to reach a man and his dog stuck in raging floodwaters.

The Fremont County, CO, Sheriff's Office posted video of the daring save on its Facebook page late Sunday. According to the post, the man had parked his SUV in a dry creek bed, but it quickly became flooded by severe rain.

A member of the Florence Fire Department's team crouched at the edge of the ladder and tossed a rope to the man inside the vehicle. They secured the dog and pulled him up as the man hung out the driver's side window, before pulling himself to the safety of the ladder.

"Amazing rescue, my thanks and respect to all the rescuers! God bless you all," said one of the Facebook commenters.

The video has been viewed more than 142,000 times and shared more than 2,000.

The sheriff's office also posted a picture of the man and his dog, who they identified as "Petey," standing safely on the dry land. The man's SUV can be seen in the background, still stuck with the raging waters above the wheels.

They thanked all the departments that helped with the rescue, including police, emergency management, and road and bridge, as well as the civilians who assisted.
