A fire department spokesman said a lightning strike may have started the fire. Three people who were inside the home at the time got out safely.
Firefighters from many departments in the area, including Anne Arundel, Carroll, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, helped battle the blaze
The $1.2 million home is owned by Janet Siddiqui, a candidate for the Howard County Council.
