(CPSC/CNN) – According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Amazon has recalled its portable power banks due to fire and chemical burn hazards.
The power bank's battery can overheat and ignite.
According to the recall alert, Amazon has received 53 reports of the power banks overheating in the United States.
The reports include one report of chemical burns due to contact with battery acid and four reports of property damage, including fire and smoke damage.
The recall involves six versions of AmazonBasics’ portable lithium-ion battery chargers and power banks.
About 260,000 units have been affected, according to the CPSC.
The affected power banks were sold from December 2014 thru July 2017.
The CPSC suggests that consumers immediately unplug and stop using the recalled power banks. They said to contact Amazon for instructions on how to return the unit and receive a full refund.
