(RNN) - Hurricane Irma rumors have circulated the web since the huge storm became a threat to the United States.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, took action and added a new rumors section to its Hurricane Irma website.
The page acts as a fact checker to various Irma rumors that have gained popularity on the internet.
FEMA addressed rumors about topics including pets in shelters and hotels, fuel demand in Florida, disaster clean-up, inspections and repairs.
Here are a few examples:
- Is it true or false that emergency shelters are required to accommodate the pets and service animals of evacuees? FEMA says TRUE.
- Is it true or false that property owners forfeit federal disaster assistance if they clean up flood-damaged properties? FEMA says FALSE.
