CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (WSB/CNN) - A father died early Thursday morning saving his wife and five children in a house fire.
Neighbors in Clayton County, south of Atlanta, said they awoke to screams and came outside to find the wife bleeding, as the father safely got the children out of the burning house through a window.
“Distraught. Distraught. Distraught. She said, ‘My husband, my husband.” She was like, ‘My husband.’ We tried to go over there but there was nothing we could do for him," said neighbor Jacob Stewart.
Firefighters said the five children, ages 6 to 13, suffered minor cuts and bruises while their mother was hospitalized with smoke inhalation.
Officials have not yet released the names of the family, and firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze.
