(RNN) - An explosion occurred on Eglin Air Force Base in the McKinley Climatic Lab a little before 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported.
A 1,000 foot area has been cordoned off and the surrounding area evacuated. A black pillar of smoke is rising from the area poses no threat to the public, officials from the base announced.
Methyl Chloride was the chemical involved in the explosion. No Eglin personnel have been injured, the base reported on its Facebook page.
