RENO, NV (KOLO/CNN) - A machine called an exoskeleton can help some paraplegics walk.
It is a set of bionic feet, legs and hips connected to one another.
Researchers recently shared their work with the exoskeleton system while at the Reno, NV, VA hospital.
According to research, getting patients up and moving has positive impacts on both mental and physical health
"It (the system) allows people with spinal cord injuries to be out of their wheelchair and standing and ambulating," said Jerry Kiratli of the VA Spinal Cord Injury Center.
It's not a full replacement for a wheelchair, but the device can be prescribed for people with spinal cord injuries T6 and below.
