(RNN) – The hot coil challenge is not a fad. It’s one guy.

A fad is a when a large group of people – like the nation’s teenagers, or GenXers – are enthusiastic about something as a group. Like the Ice Bucket Challenge, slap bracelets, DigiPets, or velour sweatsuits.

The internet wants you think the next Tide Pod Challenge is burning yourself on the heated coils of a stove. Headlines like “Hot coil challenge is newest, dangerous fad” or “Hot coil challenge is the latest online trend” are rising to the top of Google searches

Fellow humans of Earth – everyone is sharing the same video of one guy who filmed his stupidity a month ago. One. Guy. Not multiple people. One dude in his kitchen.

The only fad here is how the internet is elevating one guy’s idiocy.

Even Reddit is over this "challenge" already.

YouTube has now restricted the video as content for those over 18, so if you want to see this guy hurt himself wearing a T-shirt with expletives while screaming a lot them, you’ll have to jump through some hoops.

Let’s have the next internet challenge be people doing good in the world, like these teenagers out of Michigan.
