BIG LAKE, MN (CNN) - An escaped emu that rallied a small town in Minnesota died while being recaptured.
"Dork" had been on the run for the last month, occasionally being spotted but repeated eluding capture.
A Facebook page and T-shirts were created about Dork's time on the lam, and he became a bit of a local celebrity.
Dork was located Saturday, but suffered a heart attack during the attempt to capture and return him home.
Police said it is not unusual for emus to suffer cardiac arrest during stressful events.
Residents are now hoping to immortalize his escape. A GoFundMe account has been set up to pay for taxidermy costs. They hope Dork will find a permanent home at the History Center in Becker, MN.
