(CNN) - The EPA is boosting security for Administrator Scott Pruitt to unprecedented levels, and some lawmakers wonder if it's too much.
Amid a rising number of threats against Pruitt, his security detail is adding a dozen more agents, giving him around-the-clock protection.
According to data from public documents, salaries alone for the full team will cost taxpayers at least $2 million per year.
Pruitt also bought a secure, soundproof communications booth for his office at a cost of nearly $25,000.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration plans to cut the EPA's budget by 30 percent.
The agency's Inspector General's office says Pruitt has gotten more death threats than any of his predecessors, but two Democratic congressmen are asking the inspector to investigate whether taxpayer funds are being misused.
