(RNN) The video is terrifying – a man in Reading, England is walking down the sidewalk and never sees the bus that veers off the road and smashes into him.
But the outcome presents the likelihood that Simon Smith is the toughest man in England, if not the world.
After being knocked about 20 feet, Smith gathered himself, got up off the sidewalk, dusted himself off and walked unaided into the nearby Purple Turtle Bar, where onlookers rushed to help him.
The video begins with the out-of-control bus making a wide turn, knocking over a few benches before running over a curb and slamming into Smith’s back, knocking him about 20 feet. The impact broke the bus’ windshield.
Smith was knocked off his feet and flew clear of the path of the bus, which veered away from the sidewalk.
His wife told The Telegraph that he was in a lot of pain, but the BBC reported that he was treated and released from the hospital within a few hours. The bar manager said it's a miracle he survived.
The bus company apologized and said the driver has been taken off the road while they conduct an internal investigation.
