(CNN) - American and Colombian veterinarians worked together to give an elephant a root canal.
Tantor needed 30 handlers to work on a cracked tusk. Due to safety reasons, the procedure performed under general anesthesia.
Barranquilla Zoo in Colombia launched a crowdfunding campaign to help pay for the costly procedure.
The elephant is said to be doing well. Doctors will keep a close eye on him for the next few days.
Tantor was brought to the zoo in 1991 after he was found on a ranch owned by the cartel.
