(RNN) - Kenneth Bachman, of Gloucester County, NJ, did the responsible thing by calling an Uber to take him home after a party on Friday night.
Unfortunately, the party was in Morgantown, WV, and the safe ride home to New Jersey cost $1,635.93.
"I was just like - that's crazy. Why did you agree to take me to New Jersey from West Virginia?" he said he asked the driver.
Bachman was out with friends near the campus of the University of West Virginia when he realized he had enough to drink and called for an Uber. Bachman had consumed a lot, and barely remembers calling for the car. He got in the car, and fell asleep.
“I was getting drinks all night. I probably spent like $200 at the bar after already drinking all day,” Bachman said. “Basically, I kind of just blacked out. The last thing I remember was being at the bar and then I just woke up in the Uber next to an older dude telling me I was an hour out from Jersey.”
When he got the bill for $1,635.93, he realized he also ordered UberXL; the option for a larger car that riders use for larger groups. The regular option would’ve cost him $800.
“I guess this kind of embarrassing,” he admitted to KYW.
Bachman is headed back to West Virginia this weekend to pick up his bags.
