(CNN) - Dollar General is bucking the retail trend. It has announced plans to open hundreds of additional stores.
The discount chain announced on Thursday that it plans to open 900 new stores in 2018 for the second year in a row.
Dollar stores are one of the few retail groups thriving, while many traditional brick-and-mortar retailers have been eclipsed by the growth of e-commerce.
According to the company, by the end of the year, more than three in four Americans will live within five miles of a Dollar General. Dollar General did not say how many new jobs the openings could create.
