ROANOKE, VA (WSLS/CNN) - Two people in Virginia are recovering from injuries Thursday after a dog attacked them in downtown Roanoke.
Witnesses could not subdue the bull terrier even after someone pepper-sprayed it, so one man shot it.
Roanoke police said the dog attacked a man and woman who medics rushed away on a stretcher.
A witness captured the alarming pictures of the bull terrier going after the man's leg and arm.
The woman’s arm was wrapped in a bandage.
Officers said the dog ran out of an apartment when its owner opened the door.
"The dog was just running up and down the street, attacking people," said Robert Farrl who witnessed the incident.
A veterinarian later euthanized the dog.
The incident was not the first time police had received reports about the dog.
The same dog bit a man's hand last December. The victim did not file charges and so far no charges have been filed in Thursday's attack.
The dog’s owner was not available to give their side of the story.
There were no updates available on the victims at this time.
