Dog missing from New Mexico turns up in Missouri

Posted

KANSAS CITY, MO (WDAF/CNN) - After almost a year, a lost dog is being reunited with owners.

Jamie Bergman owns a Husky named Aspen, but her boyfriend called her about a different Husky that showed in their yard, unannounced on Christmas Day.

That dog was Koda, and he had made his way from New Mexico to Missouri.

Koda was skinny, wet and covered in ice. Bergman bathed him and fed him and then took him to a vet to checked out and scanned for a microchip.

Koda had a chip, and Bergman contacted his owners to let them know their dog was OK.

"They can't believe it," Bergman said. "They are really confused, first of all, about who I am, how I have their number and how I have their dog."

That's when Bergman found out Koda was a long way from home, and had been missing for almost a year.

No one knows how Koda got to Missouri, but he will be heading back to New Mexico next month.
