Diplomat's daughter may avoid charges in classmate's stabbing

WASHINGTON, DC (WJLA/CNN) – A 12-year-old girl, who is the daughter of a diplomat, was taken into police custody but not arrested after officers say she stabbed her classmate with scissors.

A 13-year-old boy at the British International School of Washington was stabbed twice with scissors Tuesday, according to police.

The boy’s injuries are non-life-threatening. He appeared to be OK after the incident.

Police detained a 12-year-old suspect, but officers say because the girl is the daughter of a diplomat, she was not arrested.

If the suspect has diplomatic immunity, she cannot be prosecuted in the U.S. unless her home country waives the immunity.

Police say they’re working with the D.C. Attorney General’s office and the U.S. Department of State in regards to possible charges.
