LAKELAND, FL (WFTS/CNN) - Hazmat crews in Florida are trying to contain molten sulfur leaking from several derailed train cars.

About nine cars, some of them carrying the hazardous material, derailed new Lakeland early Monday morning.

Molten sulfur is used to make rubber, detergent and fertilizer. It can turn into a poisonous gas when exposed to fire.

No injuries have been reported, but people nearby are being told to stay indoors, close their windows and shut off their air conditioners.

It is not known what caused the derailment.
