ESSEXVILLE, MI (RNN) – After investigating a report of a Dementor in a Michigan park, police reassured residents in a Facebook post filled with “Harry Potter” references that all they found was a trash bag.

A concerned citizen called police Wednesday morning and reported seeing a Dementor, according to the Essexville Public Safety Department.

Hailing from the “Harry Potter” universe, Dementors are described on Pottermore as creatures “shaped like humans covered in dark hooded cloaks” whose “skin resembles that of a grey rotting body.”

Dementors feed on human happiness, and according to their Facebook post, officers were very concerned about the report.

The post says the department’s only officer able to perform the Patronus charm and fend off Dementors was off-duty at the time.

But upon further investigation, officers determined the Dementor was really a trash bag caught in a tree.

“The Ministry of Magic assures us that all Dementors are accounted for at Azkaban,” said the post, referencing the fact Dementors guard the infamous wizard prison.

Officers also encouraged the Essexville Muggles and wizards alike to “keep the city beautiful and help trash find its home.”

After one commenter wanted to know why only one officer could perform the Patronus charm, the department assured everyone that mandatory training would begin Thursday morning.
