STATEN ISLAND, NY (NY1/CNN) - A deer ran through an open front door of a clothing store and knocked over racks of items and left blood all over several dresses on Monday.
The deer came through a door that was propped open to let in the fresh breeze. Video captured the animal hitting shoes, and causing damage to the upscale clothing store. The damage is estimated to be in the thousands of dollars.
Shop owner Margaret Cavuoto said she and some employees huddled in an office, and watched the deer rumble through the shop before it was captured. “We were all frightened,” she told NY 1.
Customers hid in a closet during the deer's rampage before it was captured. Wildlife officials euthanized the animal. Staten Island has seen a growing deer problem with the creatures posing a problem for drivers.
