Deadly hit-and-run leaves beloved, disabled grandfather face down in mud

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/CNN) – A beloved grandfather was killed during a hit-and run accident that left the wheelchair-bound man lying face down in the mud for about an hour.

Roger Roska, 72, had traveled the route along West Morris Street to the store many times in his electric wheelchair. But early Wednesday night, officials believe a Dodge Ram hit Roska, knocking him to the ground and killing him.

His wheelchair was moving in an area with streetlights, but no sidewalk, WISH reported.

The family is devastated, especially thinking of him lying in the mud.  “That even devastated my mom even more,” said Raymond Roska, Roger’s grandson. “I don’t know what to say or what to do. It’s hurt us real bad.”

Raymond described his grandpa as kind and caring, saying he always tried to do the right thing. “Just here recently, he started getting real true bonds with his great grandkids,” Raymond said. “My grandfather has taught me a lot.”
