8 dead in Chicago violence over Father's Day weekend

CHICAGO (WGN/CNN) - A teen girl is among at least eight dead in violence over the Father’s Day weekend in Chicago. At least 50 others were wounded in a city that has been plagued with violence. 

Tiara Viramontes, 17 was shot in the head early Sunday. At least seven other people died in shootings that pushed the death count in 2017 to more than 275 by early Monday morning, WGN reported.

In 2016, 13 people were killed and 46 other were hit by gunfire over the Father’s Day weekend, The Chicago Tribune reported.

Last week, a beloved 78-year-old grandfather was killed in crossfire from a drive-by shooting, and two girls were hit by bullets while attending an end-of-the-year party at at Chicago elementary school. They suffered non life-threatening injuries, but were hospitalized.
