Cupcakes possibly tainted with bodily fluids given to students

WINSTED, CT (WFSB/CNN) - A possibly tainted cupcake is at the center of an investigation at a Connecticut high school.

The deceptive deserts were passed out around school only to find out they may have been tainted with bodily fluids.

Senior Lena Teixeira says she ate a cupcake Wednesday while waiting for the school day to start.

She says a student in her class made about two dozen to give to seniors.

She quickly heard that half the batch was tainted with bodily fluids, and that's the cupcake she ate.

"I feel violated and felt like they took something away from me and I don't know what I did for them to have done that," Teixeira says.

She says at least three students are involved.

Lena says the cupcakes that were tainted were marked. Others were not.

The school sent this statement saying, in part, "Our students' safety is our highest priority. If these allegations are found to be true, we condemn this behavior, and will take any and all appropriate actions to protect our students."

Working with the police department, the school sent one cupcake to a lab to be tested.

Police say they do not believe the cupcakes were toxic or poisonous, and no one has reported becoming ill as a result of eating the cupcakes.
