LAS VEGAS - (KTNV/CNN) - One couple is raising eyebrows for Halloween decorations that some say are too graphic. Other neighbors think the gruesome displays embody the spirit of the holiday.
Hanging heads and bloody babies with poles through their bodies. Is it amazing Halloween creativity? Or too gruesome and offensive for children? The Summerlin home is stirring up controversy on social media. Opinions in the neighborhood are varied.
“Probably the scary heads are OK, but the babies, it’s probably taking it a step too far,” one neighbor said.
Another neighbor thinks it’s all OK.
“I mean, honestly, I don’t see anything wrong with it,” she said. “It’s Halloween. Isn’t this, like, normal?”
The people disturbed by the decorations want to know what the homeowners were thinking.
“It think it’s hilarious, ‘cause it’s just Halloween decorations,” said Ryan, one of the homeowners. “We saw stuff, we thought it was cool-looking, and we did it.”
“There was no intentions to offend anybody,” said Kelcie, who owns the home with Ryan.
They have been decorating like this for years. Kelcie is a hairstylist - hence the mannequin heads hanging from the trees. As for the bloody babies idea? She got it from Pinterest.
Kelcie said the couple’s direct neighbors understand.
“They know us. They know what we’re about, so they see it quite a bit,” Kelcie said. “But I can see how it will come off not that great to people that don’t know us.”
The homeowners say they plan to take down their decorations the day after Halloween. Then, they will start putting up thousands of lights for their Christmas display.
