HOUSTON (KTRK/CNN) - Singer Gilley said while his son was driving, another vehicle entered the intersection, that’s when Gilley's son swerved to try to avoid the crash.
Moments later, the car flipped several times.
"It was like slow motion. It's an unbelievable feeling you get when you know that you're going to hit something and there's nothing you can do about it," Gilley said.
Miraculously both survived, and Gilley’s son helped to get him out of the mangled car.
Leaving the scene with only a broken shoulder and ankle, Gilley said he’s grateful at the outcome.
"At 81, I’m very lucky. So, I when I open my shows now in the theater, I tell the people I just turned 81, I hope I look like 50." Gilley said he's rescheduling this weekend's performance in Greenville, TX. but expects to be fine for a performance in Stafford later this month.
