(CNN) - Attorneys for Bill Cosby filed a motion Wednesday asking the judge in his assault case to recuse himself.
According to the motion, Judge Steven O'Neill's wife is a social worker at the University of Pennsylvania.
The motion said Dr. Deborah O'Neill coordinates 'the Sexual Trauma Treatment Outreach and Prevention' -- or STTOP -- team.
That group advocates for students who are victims of sexual assault and rape and promotes awareness.
STTOP's stance is that a culture of silence surrounding sexual assault deters reporting and undermines safety in communities.
The motion also included a copy of Dr. O'Neill's dissertation, which is on acquaintance rape.
Cosby is on trial for allegedly drugging and assaulting Andrea Constand, a woman he knew, in 2004.
His previous trial ended in a mistrial in June 2017 when jurors could not agree on a verdict.
