NEW YORK (WABC/CNN) - The city of New York removed the statue of Doctor J. Marion Sims from Central Park on Tuesday.
The 19th century obstetrician and gynecologist is called "The father of modern gynecology."
Sims was also known for conducting experiments on enslaved black women without using anesthesia.
The removal comes after leaders in east Harlem have been asking for seven years that the statue be removed.
The statue will be restored and relocated to Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn where Sims is buried.
