CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (KRIS/CNN) - Construction is set to begin on a massive project that just might touch the sky in Texas.
When the Abundant Life Fellowship Church broke ground two years ago, the plan was to build a 150-foot cross.
"But since then it has grown now to the maximum we can build it in the flight pattern of the FAA-approved a 230-foot cross, so it will be the largest cross in the Western Hemisphere,” said Rev. Richard Milby of Abundant Life Fellowship. “The (cross will be the) second largest cross in the world."
It’s being made possible through private donations.
A lawsuit slowed down the $2.5 million dollar project but now it is finally moving forward.
A contracting-signing event was set for Monday.
The world's tallest cross in Madrid, Spain, stands at 495 feet tall.
