ORLANDO, FL (CNN) - Crews disassembled and removed a Confederate statue from Lake Eola Park in Orlando on Tuesday morning.
The 106-year-old statue has been called a symbol of slavery by critics and has been at the center of debate for years.
It’s being moved to Greenwood Cemetery, in a special section set aside for Confederate veterans.
The nine-ton monument was taken apart early Tuesday morning and placed on a truck by city workers to move to its new location.
"Johnny Reb" was seen by many as a monument to slavery and white supremacy, and controversy surrounded the decision to take it down.
There were no signs of discord on Tuesday as the workers did their job.
