PHILADELPHIA, PA (CNN) - The oldest polar bear in the United States has died at the age of 37.
The Philadelphia Zoo announced the passing of its beloved polar bear Coldilocks on Tuesday.
We are saddened to announce the passing of female polar bear, Coldilocks, who was euthanized due to recent serious decline in her health. She was born at the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, NY, but lived at the Philadelphia Zoo since 1981.
According to the zoo, Coldilocks suffered from a variety of age-related medical problems.
Vets and caretakers made the difficult decision to euthanize her after a recent and serious decline in her condition, appetite and quality of life.
Coldilocks had an exceptionally long life. Polar bears typically only live to be about 23.
