(CNN) - U. S. Coast Guard personnel offloaded roughly 18 tons of cocaine in San Diego Thursday.
That's after 15 interdictions of suspected drug smuggling vessels in Central and South American waters.
The operation began in March.
In fiscal year 2016, officials said the Coast Guard seized more than 400,000 pounds of cocaine and took 585 suspected smugglers into custody.
