(CNN) - A manhunt is underway in London after a man convicted in a knife attack was released early from prison because of a clerical error.
Ralston Dodd was supposed to spend nine years in prison for stabbing Jerrell Holland three times in the back last September.
The victim suffered a punctured lung and nearly died.
But the courtroom staff misheard the judge and wrote down nine months instead of nine years.
His family said they found out Dodd was out of prison when Holland saw him driving a couple of miles from the crime scene.
The U.K.’s ministry of justice released a statement saying they are investigating the error and will work to prevent similar incidents in the future.
