Child pornography found in AZ mailboxes

Posted

TEMPE, AZ (KNXV/CNN) - Disturbing images are being delivered in one Arizona neighborhood.

Starting over the weekend, residents in Tempe said they received letters that include child pornography.

"We opened it and what a sad thing," said one resident. "It's just pitiful to see such awful pornography."

The letter containing eight black-and-white child porn images was stomach turning - one family said they couldn't show it to a police officer.

"We said we don't even want to show it to you, they said. "It's just sickening."

And showing anyone else or turning the letter in would have also been a crime.

In order to stop the cycling of the letter, Tempe police need to catch the culprit, so they're asking anyone who gets or may have gotten a letter stamped with no return address to call them.

"What we're asking the public to do is try not to manipulate it, don't touch it immediately," police said. "If you know it's suspicious in nature, give us a call so that way we can collect it, investigate it and work it as far as finding tools to see who might have sent this letter."

Authorities said the pictures were not taken recently and that they don't believe local children are at risk.
