(CNN) - The Department of Housing and Urban Development, which is responsible for creating affordable housing for Americans, came under fire for spending lavishly on dining furniture.
The department spent $31,000 last year to replace a dining room set in Carson’s office.
Carson said Thursday that he was surprised and is now canceling the order.
House oversight committee chairman Trey Gowdy is requesting that HUD turn over all information related to decoration requests.
Gowdy also wants information related to an employee's claim that she was demoted partly for refusing to spend more on furnishings than was legally allowed.
"There has been no dishonesty or wrongdoing," Carson tweeted Wednesday.
Thank you to so many who have expressed concern for me and my family over the latest accusations. Rest assured that there has been no dishonesty or wrongdoing by us. All the numbers and evidence are being gathered and a full disclosure is forthcoming. 1/2

We suspect, based on past attempts, that they will continue to probe and make further accusations even without evidence or substantiation. We will continue to ask for God’s guidance to do what is right. 2/2 pic.twitter.com/UrSZ2HiYd6
