SIDNEY TOWNSHIP, MI (WOOD/CNN) - A car sped into a family's home Sunday morning, where a 1-year-old was sleeping, coming close to hitting the child..

What the damage looks like pales in comparison to the sound it caused after 1 a.m. Sunday.

"It was like an explosion," Elizabeth Crouse said.

Tire tracks in the yard show where the car left the roadway before plowing into the side of the house, impacting the bedroom where slept a mom, dad and baby Gabriel.

The impact punched a hole in the crib where the baby was sleeping.

"I picked him up, and he had glass in his hair and dirt and all kinds of - but I brushed him off and felt him all over and he was fine. He was just fine," Crouse said. "I looked out the window and I saw (the driver) pull out and drive away."

The family got a look at this car that literally rocked their world in the middle of the night. They said it was a large, possibly light-colored vehicle.

The driver backed out of their property, stopped at this stop sign, then they said he took a left and drove right off into the darkness.

"(I'm) really shocked, just shocked that he just drove away," Crouse said.

There is still no word on who it was behind the wheel of that car.

"It's pointless to think about what could have happened because it didn't, you know? God was protecting us. But it's really hard not to," Crouse said.

It's an extra reason - not that one is needed - to hug baby Gabriel a little tighter.

"(I'm) incredibly thankful, really shaken up, but really thankful that God was protecting us," Crouse said.
