(CNN) - The cancelation policy at the Marriott hotel chain just got a little tighter.
The hotel chain used to require a 24 hour notice if a guest wanted to cancel their reservation.
But Marriott says the policy is changing to 48-hours.
Officials say that's partly because last-minute cancellations left many hotel rooms unfilled.
The new rule applies to Marriott-owned hotels in the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean.
But the 24-hour policy still applies to customers who made their reservations before June 15.
