(CNN) - The wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is the top pick to be the next ambassador to the Vatican.
A devout Catholic, Callista Gingrich has spoken openly about her faith.
She told the Christian Broadcasting Network, she has "always been a very spiritual person."
The White House plans to formally announce Gingrich's nomination before President Donald Trump meets with Pope Francis in Rome next week.
Her husband, who decided against a White House cabinet post, has said in the past he would be "very excited" if she were offered the position.
