NEW YORK (WPIX/CNN) – At least six pedestrians were injured and one driver was taken into custody after a cub jumped the curb in a busy section of New York City, setting off a chain-reaction of wrecks.
Investigators say road rage play a role in the incident, which happened Thursday just before 1:30 p.m.
Preliminary information suggests one Taxi & Limousine Commission driver was so enraged he caused a chaotic chain-reaction, crashing into cars and mowing down pedestrians along the way.
Police say the driver of a Lincoln Continental hit a Ford Explorer, and the force of the crash sent the Explorer into a bicycle, trapping the cyclist.
But the driver of the Lincoln kept going.
After nearly a block, the driver rear-ended a Mercedes SUV, police say. That impact forced the Mercedes to hit another car and a pedestrian.
Still, the Lincoln didn’t stop, as the driver jumped the car onto the sidewalk, hitting two more people.
Police say all of the injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
One driver has been taken into custody.
